Mark Balas Obituary: Winchester doctor killed in tragic UTV accident.
A Winchester man who died as the result of a utility task vehicle (UTV) crash early Saturday morning is now identified as 57-year-old Mark S. Balas.
Balas was an orthopedic doctor.
According to the Vilas County Sheriff’s Office, the dispatch center received a 911 call at 1:37 a.m. reporting a UTV accident that occurred on private property in Winchester.
Preliminary investigation revealed the UTV was traveling through the woods and went off of an embankment striking a rock and flipped over, authorities said.
The driver of the UTV, Balas, was pronounced dead at the scene.
There were no other passengers in the UTV at the time of the accident which remains under investigation by the Vilas County Sheriff’s Department, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and Vilas County medical examiner.
