Gemini Jackson Obituary News – Car Accident: Two killed; Three injured after driver tried to flee from APD traffic stop.
Authorities have confirmed two people were killed and at least three others injured after troopers say a SUV ran through a red light trying to get away from police in northwest Atlanta.
After police attempted to stop cars at 17th Street at 2:30 a.m. on Thursday, a collision occurred on Northside Drive and 14th Street. On Northside Drive, suspects in a white Toyota RAV4 fled after running through the red light. The RAV4 struck a Mitsubishi Outlander head-on.
The Outlander’s driver and front-seat passenger perished in the collision. They were identified by the Georgia State Patrol as Gemini Jerome Jackson, 27, and Uber driver Guillermo Bracho Barrios, 39.
Grady Memorial Hospital was the destination for three passengers in the backseat of Barrios’ SUV.
Additionally, the suspects in the RAV4 were transported with critical wounds to Grady Memorial Hospital.
Following the incident, Atlanta police issued the following statement, denying any involvement in a chase.
“The APD officer initiated a traffic stop of a white Toyota Rav 4, for a traffic infraction. Blue lights were activated in an attempt to stop the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle engaged the right turn signal, as if the driver was going to stop. The vehicle abruptly accelerated and traveled through an intersection, striking a Mitsubishi Outlander. From the initiation of the attempted traffic stop to the crash, is approximately 37 seconds.”
Investigations are ongoing.
