The Powerlifting Association of the Philippines mourns the passing of a valuable member of the community, Merwin Torres.
Merwin Torres was the benevolent head coach and team captain of the FNB Powerlifting Team. He started the career of some of the greatest athletes in Philippine Powerlifting history including SEA Cup medalists Rikki Saul and Iris Williams among many others.
He was also an esteemed athlete by his own right; an Asian Bench Press medalist and a consistent national masters medalist as well. He was treated as a father figure of a lot of his athletes and a dear friend of the association.
