Gethro Muscadin Car Accident: Former University of Kansas basketball player Gethro Muscadin dies 10 months after crash on Kansas Turnpike.
22-year-old former University of Kansas basketball player, Gethro Muscadin has died 10 months after he was severely injured in a crash.
Muscadin had been hospitalized since the accident on December 30, 2021.
The University of New Mexico announced his passing via a social media post on Tuesday morning.
“Gethro left us late last night,” Kansas head coach Bill Self said in a statement. “He was involved in a major car accident 10 months ago and has basically been in a non-responsive state since then. Although only here one year, Gethro was loved and liked by all and will always be remembered as a Jayhawk. We wish his family and loved ones the best going through this most difficult time.”
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, Muscadin was a passenger when a southbound sedan on I-35 in Osage County left the road, rolled many times, and came to rest on a fence line at roughly 3:10 a.m. on December 30. Muscadin didn’t have a seatbelt on. The driver, a 21-year-old woman, was treated for minor injuries at the hospital.
According to The Kansas City Star, Muscadin and his girlfriend were traveling to her hometown of Wichita after seeing the KU-Nevada game on December 29, 2021.
