Lydia became a New Athens Police Officer in May of 2022.
On Wednesday, November 30, 2022, the New Athens Illinois Police Department suffered a tragic loss with the unexpected passing of Officer Lydia Simburger while she was off duty. She was 24 years old.
Officer Simburger was dedicated to serving her country and the Village of New Athens. She was excited to have a career where she could continue to serve people in addition to serving her country already as a member of the US Army National Guard.
Lydia was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic School, Smithton, IL, Class of 2012.
