A lady has been detained and charged in relation to a fatal DUI accident. Letisha Tovar, 58, of Creta, was charged with one count of Aggravated Driving Under the Influence Causing Great Bodily Harm, according to the Illinois State Police.
ISP troopers were called to the site of a fatal collision on Interstate 394 southbound at Steger Road on November 14 just before one in the morning.
According to the authorities, a red Ford was heading south on Interstate 394 when it crashed into a deer, went into the ditch, and came to rest in the lane to the right.
The red Ford’s passenger side was damaged by a passing silver Jeep.
The red Ford’s driver was taken to the hospital. The red Ford’s passenger was declared deceased at the spot.
Tovar, the silver Jeep’s driver, was brought to the hospital but declined medical attention. The silver Jeep’s occupant was injured and taken to the hospital.
As a result of the DCI Agents’ investigation, Tovar was taken into custody on December 12.
Charges for Serious Drunk Driving Causing Great Bodily Harm against Tovar were approved by the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office (Class 4 Felony).
Tovar was granted a personal recognizance bond and freed from the Cook County Jail.
