On the grounds of the Orlando VA Medical Center in Lake Nona, a Florida man who reportedly barricaded himself inside a stolen semi-truck (without a trailer) and fled was apprehended late Monday night.
According to an arrest report, Edward Dial, 45, was detained by deputies from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO) on suspicion of grand theft of a vehicle.
Deputies were informed just before 6:30 p.m. on Monday that Dial’s stolen truck had allegedly hit several vehicles in Lake County and was now traveling toward Orange County.
The truck was followed from above by the OCSO helicopter until it parked at the hospital’s main entrance gate on Veterans Way close to Laureate Boulevard.
The affidavit claimed that Dial was seen placing and moving numerous items inside the truck while refusing to exit the vehicle.
As a result, the hospital was put on lockdown, and numerous police officers gathered in front of it.
The hours-long standoff came to an end just before midnight when SWAT arrived, searched the area, and handcuffed Dial.
According to the report, Dial was wanted on an outstanding out-of-county warrant for fleeing or attempting to flee and leaving the scene of an accident with property damage.
