Jake Stevens Obituary – Cause of Death: Garner High School CTE teacher dies unexpectedly.
Stevens had been a student, basketball player and football player at Garner High before becoming a career and technical education (CTE) teacher.
In an email message to families on Tuesday, January 17, 2023, Garner High Principal Matt Price said that Jake Stevens died Monday night unexpectedly. However, his cause of death was not disclosed.
“Our condolences, thoughts, and prayers go out to his family and his friends and coworkers,” Price said in the message. “Please keep them and all of those that have been impacted by this loss in your hearts and prayers. We want to honor Mr. Stevens’ family and be respectful of their needs of privacy at this time.”
Stevens was a teacher for 16 years, according to the Wake County school system.
Stevens had been suspended with pay on Friday. The reason for the suspension was not disclosed.
“Mr. Stevens was a major impact on my life and so many others. I was one of his first students back 2006. Stevens chanced my knuckle head ways of throwing paper in automotive class. Into something constructive. Mr. Stevens helped so many on and off the football field. It has been an honor having you as a teacher and a friend,” a tribute post shared via Facebook read.
