Ava Wood, Baldwinsville Obituary News: Durgee Junior High School Student-Athlete Killed In Murder-Suicide At Home.
“It is with great sadness and a very heavy heart that I inform you of the tragic loss of Durgee Jr. High School 9th grade student Ava Wood,” The Baldwinsville school district announced Ava’s tragic death via an email to parents and staff on Friday. “We are a close-knit school community and our hearts are broken by this tragedy. Our thoughts are with Ava’s family and friends during this extremely difficult time.”
According to reports, 14-year-old Ava was found dead from a gunshot wound inside her home at 6 Triangle Place. It appears she was killed by her father, 51-year-old Christopher Wood in a murder-suicide, police said.
Ava was found after her mother called for a status check when she heard Ava did not show up to school Friday morning, authorities said at a news conference.
Ava was a 9th grader at Durgee Junior High School in the district. She was involved in track and field and played soccer in school.
