A head-on collision in Sydney’s south has claimed the life of one man and hospitalized three others, among them a little youngster.
Following reports of the incident, emergency personnel were summoned to Heathcote Rd in Lucas Heights around 3 p.m. on Sunday.
The 66-year-old man who was operating one of the vehicles passed away there and then. A 67-year-old woman who was his passenger was rushed to Liverpool Hospital in a critical condition.
A 33-year-old passenger was also taken in a serious condition and sent to Liverpool Hospital, while police were unable to ascertain the status of the second driver. A small boy, who was sent to the hospital in a stable condition, was also in the automobile.
In April 2019, the major road’s speed limit was lowered from 100 km/h to 90 km/h to lower the likelihood of collisions.
The Sutherland Shire Police Area Command has since formed a crime scene, and investigations are still ongoing.
Since 3 o’clock, Heathcote Road has been closed between New Illawarra Road and St. George Crescent. Due to the fact that investigations are expected to “take some time,” authorities have encouraged drivers to use a different hotel and allow extra travel time.
