Vigo County Motorcycle Accident: West Terre Haute man arrested following double fatality crash on U.S. 150 in Vigo County.
In the northwest of Vigo County, a motorbike incident involving a car has resulted in the deaths of two people and slowed down traffic along a section of U.S. Highway 150.
Sheriff John Plasse of Vigo County reported that a tragic collision involving two vehicles happened close to the intersection of U.S. 150 and W. Sanford Road.
The driver of the motorbike that was involved in a tragic double collision in Vigo County on Friday has been named as Mitchell Lankford of West Terre Haute, Indiana.
Following a car-versus-motorcycle collision that claimed the lives of two riders on Friday afternoon in West Terre Haute, Lankford, 34, was detained and charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of a controlled substance resulting in death.
“Once on scene, deputies learned that the motorcycle was southbound on US Hwy 150, and that the truck turned into its path attempting to turn west onto Sanford Rd. The driver and passenger of the motorcycle were pronounced deceased at the scene,” The Vigo County Sheriff’s Office wrote in a Facebook post.
“The driver of the truck, 34 year old Mitchell Lankford was transported to the hospital where he later tested positive for a controlled substance. He was subsequently arrested and transported to the Vigo County Jail charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of a controlled substance resulting in death.”
“A crash reconstruction team along with the Vigo County Coroner’s Office assisted at the scene. The names of the deceased are not being released at this time.”
