When his Mustang crashed into the front of a brand-new restaurant in Ridgefield early on Saturday, a 19-year-old college student from Garfield was killed and his girlfriend suffered significant injuries.
Around midnight on June 24, according to Ridgefield Police Chief TJ Gallagher, Yusuf Bakmaz missed the split to Grand Avenue on the left as the two were traveling north on Broad Avenue.
Karden, which opened in April at the location of the previous Chan’s Dragon Inn, was struck immediately when the teen’s white 2002 Ford Mustang sped across the island, clipped another vehicle, and swerved into it.
Bakmaz was pronounced dead at the scene.
His girlfriend had exited the vehicle and was sent to the trauma center at Hackensack University Medical Center in critical condition.
According to Gallagher, no one was hurt in the automobile that was clipped.
