Brigadier Gen. Ben Skardon has died aged 104, Cause of Death

Brigadier Gen. Ben Skardon Death – Cause of Death: Brigadier Gen., Ben Skardon has passed away. The Bataan Death March survivor had just received an honorary promotion to the rank of Brigadier General before he died in Clemson on Monday, November 15.

Skardon joined the US Army a year after graduating from the then Clemson College in 1938. He was stationed in the Philippines, where he commanded a company of Filipino army recruits. He survived the Bataan march 1942, and years of disease and hunger.

“Brig. Gen. Ben Skardon ’38, who survived the Bataan Death March of World War II and received our state and nation’s highest honors, including the Order of the Palmetto and Congressional Gold Medal, has died at 104,” a post made via Clemson University Facebook page reads. “His service and sacrifice represent what it means to be a soldier, teacher and Tiger. We lift up all those who knew and loved him.”

“His legacy will forever be remembered in this community and his service to this great country will forever be appreciated.”
