Drew Gibbs Death – Cause of Death: Ramapo High School football coach, 59-year-old Drew Gibbs died of complications from emergency surgery on Tuesday, November 16.

Gibbs had experienced chest pains during practice on Monday before he was rushed to Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, where doctors found a tear in his aortic valve via scan.

Gibbs was head coach of the Kean University Cougars during the 1989 season before he joined Ramapo High School in New Jersey as the head coach. Regarded as one of the best high school football coaches in the state of New Jersey, Gibbs continued the tradition of success at Ramapo as they only failed to make the playoffs once in his first seventeen years in the position.

“It’s a very tough morning at Ramapo HS. New Jersey’s high school football community is mourning a great coach and a great man today,” journalist, Kurt Siegelin wrote. “Gibbs was preparing his team for the sectional finals yesterday when he started having chest pains at practice. He died in surgery overnight.”

“On behalf of the Northern Highlands football family, we are deeply saddened by the sudden loss of Ramapo Football Head Coach Drew Gibbs. Gibbs has been a pillar of the North Jersey football coaching community with a reputation and resume that is hard to match. He has been the Green Raiders coach since 2001 and led them to seven sectional titles.”
