Erik Perez Death: Shelbyville Police Department identified juvenile as the victim in Shelbyville accidental shooting.

Shelbyville Police officers responded to a shooting report at a home on Zelkova Drive around 2 p.m. on Sunday. The caller had reported that someone had been shot in the chest.

Upon officers arrival at the scene, a 10-year-old old boy was discovered as the victim. Shelbyville Police Department Sgt. Kelly Cable identified the victim as Erik Perez. Resuscitative measures were performed at home before he was transported to a hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

According to investigators, 28-year-old Treymont Rucker-McKellery a friend of the family was identified as a person of interest. Rucker-McKellery brought the gun with him into the home, and left the scene after the shooting, police said.

Rucker-McKellery was interviewed in connection with the shooting on Monday but was not taken into custody.
