Human skeletal remains found in the area of Southport Road near Mt. Pleasant unofficially identified.

According to Maury County Sheriff’s Department, the skeletal remains collected on Monday, December 27, were that of an adult based on expert opinions.

Multiple facets of evidence recovered yesterday also lead to an unofficial identification of the individual, authorities said. Family of the individual has been notified by MCSO.

On Sunday, December 26, 2021, Maury County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a possible human skeletal remains in the area of Southport Road near Mount Pleasant. Upon Deputies response and verification of the report, they secured the scene.

According to Maury County Sheriff’s Department, members of MTSU FASR “Forensic Anthropology Search & Recovery” Team, Mount Pleasant Police Department, Tennessee Highway Patrol CIRT team and the Medical Examiner’s Office joined the investigation on Monday, December 27, 2021.

Items collected from the area was carefully processed and the skeletal remains sent to the Medical Examiner’s office for further examination and positive identification.
