Betsy Plevan Obituary – Death: We are immensely sad to hear about the passing away of Betsy Plevan which has made known through several notices that we came across through the social media on October 29, 2021.
The women partners of Proskauer Rose LLP mourn the death of their partner and dear friend Betsy Plevan. Saying, “she was a mentor and role model for all women. Betsy was a trailblazer in our field and her strong presence touched the lives of legions of past and present lawyers at the firm.”
“In the courtroom there was no one better than Betsy, and her contributions outside of work were a shining example of how we all should live our lives: with dedication to family, friends, clients and the profession. She taught us all the value of always being “all in.” We are all better for having known her. She will be dearly missed.”
The Proskauer Labor Department family is deeply saddened by the passing of our beloved friend and partner, Bettina (Betsy) Plevan. Betsy was a seminal figure in the firm’s Labor Department, serving as a role model to many, both for her legal acumen in employment law as well as for her unprecedented achievements.
Betsy was the first female partner in her department and the first woman to serve on Proskauer’s Executive Committee. She helped weave the fabric of the Labor Department, having been a member of our community for almost 50 years. We continue to receive the benefits of her mentoring generations of associates. Betsy achieved professional success in a manner that few lawyers do, creating significant legal precedent that still stands today. She received more awards and accolades for achievement, public service and integrity than can be listed here. Betsy never lost her love for the practice of law and, most importantly, never lost sight of her humanity.
She brought it to everything she did and, as a result, raised all of us higher. We extend our deepest sympathies to Betsy’s beloved husband, Ken, her son and daughter in law Rabbi William Plevan and Sara Shapiro Plevan and Ken and Betsy’s grandson. Betsy was pre-deceased by her son, Jeffrey Barasch Plevan who passed in 2013. Betsy will be greatly missed by all of us who were fortunate to know her.
