Eddie Mekka Death – Cause of Death: Actor, Eddie Mekka was best known for his role as Carmine Ragusa on the television sitcom Laverne & Shirley.

Eddie Mekka passed away at his home in Newhall, California on Saturday, November 27. He was 69 years old. His cause of death was not disclosed.

“Tony Award nominated actor Eddie Mekka, best known as Carmine on Laverne and Shirley, passed away at his Newhall, California home on November 27,” Tony Guadagnino shared via Facebook. “He was born in Worcester, Massachusetts on June 14, 1952. He was 69 years old, and survived by his wife of 27 years and his daughter.”

Mekka was the son of Italian mother Mariam and Armenianfather Vaughn Mekjian. His mother was a presser and his father was a World War II veteran. He graduated from Burncoat High School.

After performing on Broadway in The Lieutenant, for which he was nominated for a Tony Award, he moved to Los Angeles. He played the role of Carmine ‘The Big Ragoo’ Ragusa for Laverne & Shirley in 1976, acting on the series until it was canceled in 1983.

His recent television credits include 24, The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, The Bold and the Beautiful, and as Detective Murdoch in the Fox television movie Catch Me If You Can. He had a small role in the Penny Marshall-directed 1992 film, A League of Their Own as the dance partner of Mae (Madonna) in the bar.
