Barry Grennan Obituary News; Death – Cause of Death

We are deeply saddened that yesterday the club lost a truely outstanding member of the community, when Baz passed in hospital.

What a lot people don’t know is, Baz had no long term connection to Macleod when he rolled through the doors of a home game in 2015, only knowing a hand full of people. Within a week he had scored himself some off field apparel. Within a month our new regular was sponsoring a young senior player, who tomorrow walks out as captain for the first time. Within 12 months he was the barman and he never looked like leaving.

Tongue in cheek, Baz after a couple of beers liked to joke that he was the lucky charm the club needed to win our 2015 premiership, which if you know Baz – is no surprise. While no great achievement can be narrowed down to one person, a lucky charm isn’t so far off the mark. Barry was one of the most genuine and caring people you could meet and we at Macleod do consider ourselves very lucky to have him touch our lives.

Barry continued to connect the Rosanna Bowling Club and Macleod as you’d find him rolling between the two. Across both I think we can agree he was the ultimate volunteer. Barry worked the bar tirelessly, stocking on a Friday, serving on a Saturday and cleaning on a Sunday.

Tomorrow the boys will be wearing a black arm band as a small reminder of the great man, Barry Grennan. So tomorrow at De Winton or wherever you are, share a story about Baz between friends, have a laugh and crack open a beer for him. It’s what he would have wanted.
