Donnie Miller Obituary – Cause of Death: Kansas Music Hall of Famer Donnie Miller Passes Away.
Rock and blues great and Coffeyville native Donnie Miller has passed away, an online obituary announced on Tuesday, May 16, 2023.
Miller believes he had the chance to give back to the music that had filled his spirit since he was the host of the longest-running blues jam. His 45-year career included hundreds of performances at venues ranging from dive bars to major concert tours, no matter how big or small.
For ten years, Miller played 200 performances a year as a rock musician in several bands. As a result, CBS Records offered to release eight albums starting in 1987. In 1990, his debut record “One of the Boys” was widely praised and featured guest appearances from Tommy Shaw and Cyndi Lauper. Miller turned to the blues as a kind of treatment to relearn the guitar after suffering a severe hand injury in 1992. Both Miller’s life and his career, he claims, were spared.
In 2000, Miller relocated to Nashville, where he continued his career and impacted both upcoming and well established musicians, including Chris Freund from KGGF. 2020 saw Miller’s induction into the Kansas Music Hall of Fame.
In addition to his selection as a Hall of Fame member Miller was also named a recipient of the Bill Lee Award.
