Padraig Pearses GAC Melbourne is deeply saddened to share that our past player Emma McGuire has passed away after a battle with cancer.
Emma joined Pearses in 2018, and after Brid had given her the low down she slotted right in and was a true leader from day one.
Emma had many accolades in her time with Pearses including Captaining the Victoria team at State Games in 2019, and the real highlight coming back for the 7s in 2020 and taking out the win.
Emma’s suitcase went home a lot heavier than when she landed filled with medals, trophies and the many Player of the Year Awards she won in her time here.
On the pitch Emma was a leader, and was fond of keeping the opposition full forwards in her back pocket. Her dedication to training and our club were second to none.
Off the pitch is where Emma did some of her best work. Her quick wit left its mark with her famous ‘player ratings’ after big games. Emma was always up for the craic, and singing Grace every night out we had.
The friendships, love and laughs will never be forgotten. We are so proud that Emma was part of our club, and our thoughts are with Emma’s parents, brothers & sisters, partner and wider family & friends in the tough weeks and months ahead.
Tomorrow before our game against Wolfe Tones we will retire our number 3 jersey that Emma wore with pride for the season and hold a minutes silence.
We will be holding a small gathering in memory of Emma at Shakespeare Grove this Monday 3rd April at 6.30pm for anyone in Melbourne who wants to join us.
