James Varin Obituary – Cause of Death: Providence battalion fire chief dies following battle with cancer.
On Monday, February 27, Providence Fire Fighter’s Local 799 announced the line of duty death of Battalion Chief James Varin.
According to the union, Varin, 52, died from occupational cancer. He leaves behind his wife and two sons.
Varin served with the department for more than 31 years, and was most recently the captain of Ladder 3 at the Admiral Street Station.
