Jordan Neely, a well-known Michael Jackson lookalike, was choked to death by an unknown man on a NYC subway train. Neely entered the F train on Monday and allegedly started being “hostile and erratic,” according to the police. That’s when Neely got into a fight with the 24-year-old Marine, who has not been named, and was put in a chokehold. Neely attempted to get out of the grasp by swinging his arms and legs until he lost consciousness. A second person arrived to assist. A conductor can be seen calling for the police as Neely falls unconscious in a video of the incident that has since gone viral online. Before being attacked, Neely yelled, “‘I don’t have food, I don’t have a drink, I’m tired.'” “I don’t mind getting life in prison or going to jail. I’m prepared to pass away, he added. Prior to being attacked, Neely did not attack any travelers. Neely was eventually taken to Lenox Health hospital in Greenwich Village by first responders, where he was later declared dead. The former Marine was interrogated but then freed without being charged as police continued their investigation. According to police sources, while placing Neely in a chokehold, the vet begged bystanders to dial 911. He told the New York Daily News in a statement, “I’m not addressing any questions. Thank you, but I won’t be responding to any inquiries. Neely was killed by a chokehold, according to the medical examiner’s office, but it was underlined that any decision of criminal responsibility would be left to the judicial system. The district attorney’s office in Manhattan declared an investigation. Neely’s passing occurs at a time when public awareness of homelessness and mental illness on New York City’s streets and subways is at an all-time high. In a statement, the Rev. Al Sharpton urged that Neely’s death be looked into as a possible manslaughter case. Sharpton cited the 1984 Bernhard Goetz case, in which a white shooter who had killed four Black men on a subway train was found guilty of a firearms charge. Neely’s father, Andre Zachery, claimed he hadn’t seen him in four years. Neely’s mom passed very tragically as well. 2007 saw the suffocation of Christie Neely in New Jersey. Days later, her body was discovered in a suitcase next to a road. Neely, who was 14 at the time of her passing, gave a witness statement at the murder trial of his mother’s boyfriend.
