Karina Lopez Obituary News – Car Accident: Woman killed in “tragic” Torrington car accident.
A woman who died on Wednesday after she was struck by a car while changing a flat tire on Route 8 north is now identified as 26-year-old Karina Lopez of Torrington.
According to authorities, preliminary investigations revealed Lopez was driving north on Route 8 when her car became disabled in the left lane because of a flat tire. She attempted to repair the tire in the left lane when she was struck by a 2021 Subaru Outback driven by 51-year-old Gregory T. Plaskett of Canton, State police said.
The incident happened at about 3:36 pm, close to Exit 39.
Plaskett sustained no harm and remained at the scene, authorities said.
Route 8 north was closed to traffic so that a Life Star helicopter could land there. Lopez was flown to Hartford Hospital by Life Star, where she later passed away.
