We are saddened to announce the passing of Martin Willy.
Martin moved to London in 1956 after starting his hairdressing career in Zurich Switzerland, where he worked in Mayfair. He later moved to Bristol and then Cardiff where he managed salons for Willy Steiner.
Martin first opened 32 Wellfield road in the early 1960’s as Martin Willy. As well as three further salons in St Mary’s street, Castle street and the first hairdressing school and unisex salon in Duke street arcade.
Martin was well known around Cardiff and within the hairdressing community, Often winning the L’Oreal colour trophy, premier award in the British hairdressing national colour competition. He was also made president of the hairdressing intercoiffure, an association established for the best salons around the UK.
Martin retired in 1988 where his son Errol took over. He spent the next 35 years enjoying his retirement in the south of France and Spain.
