Literally heartbroken over the passing of my pal Pete McDermott last evening. The nicest, most kind person that I have ever met. He had been suffering from many physical ailments over the last few years. Met in 9th grade with band, we were in the drum & percussion section.
An AVID Beatles fan, that man knew everything and anything about his favorite band. He had a collection of Beatles artifacts that would make Michael Jackson & Paul McCartney jealous. His best gifts to me was not only his friendship, his love but one night while staying at his home for our high school reunion, while having a deep conversation about music, he gave two original Rolling Stone magazines with the covers of Prince (one of my favorite artists). He was an avid collector of those as well.
We often would talk about our parents and how much we missed them. We would often say our dads were talking sports in Heaven for you see his dad was a football referee and my dad, coached CYO football for the grade school me and my siblings attended. Such great parents as well. I know he’s smiling down on us from Heaven right now, knowing that we all will see him again.
Even though I am so saddened of his passing, I know he is now free of pain from his ailments. I seriously mean this when I say the world is less nicer, less kind without him in it.
