A rancher found Roylynn Riding Horse’s burned and naked body for the first time on April 17, 2016. The rancher saw a naked individual lying on the ground and stopped his pickup on Castle Rock Road on the Crow Indian Reservation. She had been terribly burned, severely battered, and frostbitten. After receiving emergency care at Crow Agency Hospital, Rides Horse was then sent right away to the University of Utah Hospital Burn Center. After being set on fire, Ride Horse wandered for three miles before fainting to the ground, according to the doctors who spoke to Ride Horse’s family.
Burns coated the majority of Ride Horse’s body. On June 28, 2016, shortly after 4 a.m., Roylynn Riding Horse passed away from her wounds after a two-month battle. On April 17, 2016, Rides Horse had been pummeled until he was rendered unconscious, doused in gasoline, set ablaze, and left to perish in a field.
More than 45 percent of her body was covered with third-degree burns. When Riding Horse and her partner got into a fight, they were both in a pub. At that point, a different young woman by the name of Angelica Whiteman consented to drive Rides Horse home.
Once she requested help from another man, Dimarzio Swade Sanchez, Rides Horse’s boyfriend left the two of them alone. Whiteman and Rides Horse got into a fight in the automobile that quickly turned violent. As things got worse, Whiteman began to violently beat Rides Horse and tried to choke him to death.
Then, Riding Horse was doused in gasoline and set ablaze by Sanchez, his brother Frank, and Whiteman. Federal officials first detained Whiteman on May 11, 2016, then detained the Sanchez brothers on June 22, 2016.
