CPO Boss Hogg Death: Former Death Row Records Artist CPO Boss Hogg Dies Unexpectedly
CPO Boss Hogg, real name Vince Edwards, has died suddenly. His death was confirmed by rapper E-A-Ski and journalist Chad Kiser, who paid tribute to Boss Hogg with a post on social media. CPO was previously signed to Death Row Records.
CPO Boss Hogg was a native of Compton, California. He entered the rap game under the tutelage of MC Ren and initially performed under the name Lil Nation. CPO Boss Hogg has appeared alongside a number of west coast luminaries including Tha Eastsidaz, Warren G, and Compton’s Most Wanted member Tha Chill.
In 1995, CPO picked up a job as a receptionist in order to support his family, as his rap career started to take a downturn. He found out 2Pac had been signed to Death Row, the two had a conversation that changed CPO’s life, per for good.
“I said, ‘What’s up Pac?’ and he said, ‘What’s up, who is this?’ I said, ‘CPO.’ He said, ‘What’s up, CPO.’ I said, ‘I had a vision,’ and he said, ‘What was it?’ I said, ‘To do a song with Tupac.’ He said ‘Should I do a song with you, do one with me.’ I said, ‘Cool, we got to do that one day.’ He said, ‘N***a, I’m here now.’ I was like, ‘Okay.” And I hung the phone up. Then me and the homies went to the studio,” CPO previously recalled.
CPO Boss Hogg reached out to his friend 2Pac, who featured him on the All Eyez On Me cut “Picture Me Rollin’. He was compensated $37,000 for the song, he said the song was a God-send for his livelihood at the time and one of the highlights of his career.
“Pac did more for me than anybody else” , CPO Boss acknowledged in an interview.
The cause of his death has not been disclosed, but according to his Instagram post, he was dealing with some health issues. it was reported that CPO also endured congestive heart failure in 2010.
