Darin Johns of Andrews Death: Texas Department of Public Safety identifies victims killed in wrong way crash involving Andrew ISD bus

UPDATE: Texas Department of Public Safety identify three victims killed in wrong way crash involving Andrew ISD bus transporting students to Sweetwater for the high school football playoff game between Andrews and Springtown on Friday.

The victims were identified as 59-year-old Nathan Haile of Midland (Driver of the other vehicle involved in the crash), 69-year-old Marc Boswell of Andrews (Driver of the Andrews ISD school bus) and 53-year-old Darin Johns of Andrews (Director of Andrews ISD band).

Three have been confirmed dead while more than 12 people are injured in wrong way crash involving Andrew ISD bus transporting students to Sweetwater for the high school football playoff game between Andrews and Springtown.

The crash happened at mile marker 179 on I-20 on Friday when a wrong way driver struck the Andrews ISD bus head-on, Texas Department of Public Safety said.

An adult who was on the bus died at the scene, while another who was airlifted to a hospital has died. The driver of the vehicle that struck the bus before bursting into flames has also died.

Two students were listed in critical but stable condition, while other students were taken to the Scenic Mountain Medical Center for minor injuries, DPS Sergeant Justin Baker said.

“Our hearts go out to those who were injured or lost their lives in the bus crash in Big Spring, and we grieve for the families of those taken too soon,” Governor Greg Abbott.

The playoff game has been postponed.
