David Stuart Death: Pioneering Chemsex Activist and LGBTQ Sexual Health Expert Dies Suddenly
LGBTQ sexual health expert and advocate, David Stuart died unexpectedly, according to the sexual health clinic where he worked at London’s specialist LGBT+ sexual health clinic 56 Dean Street. He worked there for the last eight year. He coined the term “chemsex” and worked tirelessly to help the LGBT+ community with substance misuse. David was a pillar of the LGBTQ community.
His death was announced by the clinic, which said in a statement:
“It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden death of our colleague and friend David Stuart… He has been pioneering in his work and has dedicated his time as an advocate, activist, support worker, campaigner, lecturer and researcher.
He was accredited with coining the term “chemsex”. David wrote that after his own experiences with drugs he was motivated to raise awareness of the phenomenon. He strived to get investment in offering support to people struggling with chemsex, and he has been at the forefront of the strive to draw attention to an issue he argued was an epidemic.
David was not discouraged by the challenges he faced, He persevered. He often in the face of precarious funding worked with governments around the world to build effective HIV and chemsex support services .
He also loved writing, which he described his hobby. He published two books; a novel, and a collection of essays and poetry.
