Former Raiders fullback, Steve Smith is dead, Cause of Death

Steve Smith Death – Cause of Death: Former Raiders fullback, Steve Smith passed away from ALS on Saturday in Texas, the raiders announced on Saturday. He was 57 years old.

“The Raiders Family is deeply saddened by the passing of Steve Smith, who valiantly battled Lou Gehrig’s Disease for two decades. Steve and his wife Chie are an inspiration, smiling every day while always working for a cure for ALS,” Las Vegas Raiders shared.

Smith was drafted in the third round by the Raiders in 1987 after starring in college at Penn State where he helped the Nittany Lions win their last national championship in the 1986 season.

He played two final seasons in the league with the Seattle Seahawks before retiring after the 1995 season. In 1995, Smith won the inaugural Madden Bowl.

“Smith was a great blocking fullback in the 80s & 90s. In his final college game he and Penn State upset my beloved and heavily favored Miami Hurricanes in the 1987 National Championship Game, Tony Torres shared.

Smith has been battling ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease) for the last 20 years and hasn’t been able to walk or talk in years, and was fighting with the help of machines and his wife Chie.
