Frank Barker Death – Cause of Death: Briarwood’s founding pastor, Dr. Frank Barker Jr. has passed away.
According to Dr. Barker’s daughter, Peggy Barker Townes, he died aged 89 on Monday, December 27.
Dr. Barker founded Briarwood Presbyterian Church in a storefront in 1960, leading the church to become one of Birmingham’s first megachurches before his retirement in 1999.

“Briarwood’s founding pastor and a mentor to me, Dr. Frank Barker, Jr. entered into the presence of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ this afternoon,” Former Alabama Republican Party Chairman, Bill Armistead wrote.
“I was blessed to be in the last small group Bible Study he conducted which concluded just a couple of months ago. Rev. Barker was truly faithful to the end and he was anxiously anticipating the day he would be face to face with his Savior.”
