Grant Gilbertson Death: Peninsula Panthers player, Grant Gilbertson killed in car crash caused by icy roads near Victoria on Monday.

18-year-old Grant Gilbertson of Sooke, who played for the Peninsula Panthers in the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League died in a motor vehicle collision on the way to practice shortly on Monday.

Grant is remembered as a kind and gentle spirit, a fantastic and driven hockey player, a beloved and loyal young man with a twinkling impish smile.

Grant graduated from Edward Milne Community School in 2020 with many of his childhood friends. He was an excellent student who was involved with school activities and the Sooke community.

He had played hockey for Sooke Minor Hockey, Juan de Fuca Hockey, and was currently playing with the Peninsula Panthers. “His love of hockey and being on the ice was boundless.”

The hockey future Grant had hoped for was cut short by a motor vehicle accident due to terribly icy road conditions on the way to practice.
