Irina Antonova was Born in Moscow in 1922. During the Soviet-German War, she worked as a nurse in a hospital. He graduated from Moscow State University in 1945 and began an internship at the Pushkin Museum in the same year. She participated in the Museum of postgraduate courses, her research is on the Renaissance period of Italian art. He was promoted to curator in 1961. During his tenure, he hosted many large-scale exhibitions and attracted a large number of audiences.
In 1974, the museum ushered in Leonardo ‘s masterpiece ” Mona Lisa “, which was the first time the painting was exhibited in Moscow. In 1981, the “Moscow- Paris” painting exhibition was successfully held, and the works of Malevich, Kandinsky, Chagall and others were displayed together with the works of Matisse and Picasso, making a great contribution to the introduction of impressionist paintings into Russia. From 1971 to 1977 and from 1986 to 1992, he served as the vice chairman of the International Association of Museums. In 1979, he was elected as a corresponding member of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando, Spain. In 1989 he was elected a member of the Soviet Academy of Educational Sciences. Elected as a member of the Russian Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2001.
During the 2012 Russian presidential election , he was listed as Putin ‘s campaign agent. On April 11, 2013, she was appointed as the chief curator of the Russian National Museum.
July 1, 2013 announced the departure of its term of up to 52 years, by far the longest in the world to create a museum curator term record. After resignation, he continued to serve as the president of the museum
