Paul Barry Death – Cause of Death: North Kingstown police Captain, Paul Barry dies following ‘sudden illness’.
North Kingstown Police Department announced the death of Captain Paul Barry via official Facebook page on Tuesday, December 14, 2021. “It is with much sadness that our Department informs you of the passing of our friend and brother Police Officer, Captain Paul Barry,” the post read.
Captain Barry passed away on December 13, 2021, at 4:20 PM at Rhode Island Hospital after losing a battle with a sudden onset illness, the department announced. He was a 26 year veteran of the Police Department.
In July of 1995, he attended the RI Municipal Police Academy. After graduation, on December 15, 1995, he began his law enforcement career upon being sworn in as a North Kingstown Police Officer.
In December of 2001, he was transferred to the Detective Division in the position of Detective Patrolman. On March 12, 2008, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. On August 22, 2010, he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant. On October 11, 2015, he served as an acting Captain until July 13, 2016, upon which, the promotion was made permanent.
Throughout his career, Captain Barry received numerous Department and Division commendations, as well as many letters of accolades. In addition, in 2005 he was named Rotary Police Officer of the Year.
