Frank Williams Death – Cause of Death: In a statement on behalf of the Williams family, the Williams team shared on Sunday, November 28; “It is with great sadness that on behalf of the Williams family, the team can confirm the death of Sir Frank Williams CBE, Founder and Former Team Principal of Williams Racing, at the age of 79.”
“After being admitted into hospital on Friday, Sir Frank passed away peacefully this morning surrounded by his family.”
Frank Williams won nine constructors’ championships and seven drivers’ titles during his time with the team and dominated much of the 1980s and 1990s, before selling the Williams team to US investors in 2020.
“We are filled with the most immense and deep sadness at the passing of Sir Frank Williams,” F1 shared via official Facebook page. His was a life driven by passion for motorsport; his legacy is immeasurable, and will be forever part of F1.”
Williams was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth II in 1986, and received a knighthood in 1999. He was made a Knight of the Legion of Honour by France, for his work with Renault F1’s engines, and also received the Wheatcroft Trophy in 2008, in recognition of his significant contributions to motorsports.
In 2010, he was awarded the Helen Rollason Award for outstanding achievement in the face of adversity at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year awards. Williams was added to the Motor Sport Hall of Fame as a member in 2011.
In 2012, a new road in Didcot, Oxfordshire, was named “Sir Frank Williams Avenue.”
“I will never forget the moment when I was standing next to you in the Monza F1 Garage in 2005 watching the Formula 1 Race and you turned to me and you said that you have decided that you want me to race for you in 2006…,” Nico Rosberg shared. “I am forever thankful and my thoughts are with you, Jonathan and Claire, and everyone else in your family.”
