Jethro Lazenby was found dead after he was released from prison. He died at the age of 31. Singer Nick Cave, announced the passing of his eldest son a statement on social media.

“With much sadness, I can confirm that my son, Jethro, has passed away. We would be grateful for family privacy at this time,” Cave said,

The “Into My Arms” hitmaker did not disclose Jethro Lazenby’s cause of death. However, it is worth noting that his passing occurred after struggling with schizophrenia and substance use disorder. It remains unknown whether he took his own life or if foul play was involved.

According to the Guardian, Lazenby, who sometimes also went by Cave, lived in Australia for much of his young life only meeting his father for the first time when he was around 8 years old.

“To my eternal regret, I didn’t make much contact with Jethro in the early years, but I now have a great relationship with him,” Cave said in 2008.

“It seems to me, that if we love we grieve. That’s the deal,” Cave wrote. “Grief and love are forever intertwined. Grief is the terrible reminder of the depths of our love and, like love, grief is non-negotiable.”

What is Nick Cave’s Son Jethro Lazenby Cause of Death?

Lazenby’s death happened days after he was released on bail after confessing that he attacked his mother last month. Upon his release from a Melbourne jail, the judge ordered him not to contact his mother for two years and receive substance abuse treatment.

Jethro Lazenby’s death occurred years after Cave also lost his then-teenage son, Arthur Cave.

The 15-year-old purportedly passed after falling off a cliff in Brighton, England. Initial reports by investigators revealed that his death was not being treated as suspicious.

“Members of the public carried out first aid on the boy before he was taken to the Royal Sussex county hospital, Brighton, just after 6 p.m. He later died there of his injuries. The death is being dealt with by the coroner’s officer,” a spokesperson for the Sussex police said at that time.

Arthur was found with life-threatening injuries he sustained after falling 60 feet off the cliff. He was airlifted but later died due to the severity of his case.

Before his passing, he and his twin brother, Earl Cave, notably appeared in the quasi-documentary “20,000 Days on Earth.”
