Leonie Forbes’s cause of death has never been made public. We will surely update this news as soon as we are able to get more information regarding this. We pray that God grants those mourning this death the strength and the courage to carry on. Losing a beloved one is one of the most difficult feelings on earth. In Kingston, Jamaica, Forbes was raised. Prior to attending Excelsior College and the Durham College of Commerce, she attended Kingston Senior School. She worked as a typewriter at the University of the West Indies after finishing school.

Later, Forbes started transcribing playwright Barry Reckord’s scripts for him. She began working as a radio announcer for the Jamaica Broadcasting Corporation (JBC) in 1959, and she later obtained a scholarship to study at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in England.

While working as a writer for BBC Caribbean and acting in a number of television series, such as Z-Cars, The Odd Man, Public Eye, and Hugh and I, Forbes spent six years at RADA learning radio, television, and stage methods. In 1962, she made her stage debut as a professional actor in Lloyd Reckord’s Busha Bluebeard.

Forbes went back to Jamaica in 1966 and carried on working with the JBC. She resided in Australia from 1968 to 1970 while her husband was a professor at the University of Queensland. During that time, she performed in several radio plays for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation and held a part-time job as a drama instructor.

Forbes was named the program director of Radio Two, JBC’s FM channel, in 1972. In 1976, she was promoted to general director of radio broadcasting. Throughout and after her time at the JBC, Forbes kept acting.

She made numerous local plays and movies. She performed in plays like The Rope and the Cross and Old Story Time in addition to playing the lead roles in 12 pantomimes. She also appeared in foreign films like Soul Survivor, The Orchid House, and Milk and Honey.

For her efforts, Leonie Forbes was appointed an Officer of the Order of Distinction in 1980. In 2012, she released an autobiography.
