Chris was a doting father to his young kids, a hard worker and sole provider for his family.
He walks into a room and you knew he was there. He would give anyone the shirt off his back or come to your aid at the drop of a hat. Not only was he a devoted father and husband, he was a loving son, brother, uncle, friend, neighbor, community member and devout member of the church.
Chris Mortensen, 42, of Pleasant Grove, was involved in a road rage altercation in Sandy on Wednesday, according to police confirmation on Thursday.
According to authorities, Mortensen was on I-15 when Rodrigo A. Monroy, 32, of Riverton, abruptly cut him off. According to a police affidavit, Monroy acknowledged that he “brake checked” Mortensen after being apprehended.
According to a police booking affidavit, Monroy pulled a gun out from under the driver seat and pointed it at (Mortensen), telling him to back away. (Mortensen) attempted to grab the gun and a short struggle ensued through the open window of (Monroy’s vehicle).
Monroy pulled his gun away and then “leaned away from (the victim) and fired one shot which struck (Mortensen) in the chest,” the affidavit states.
Chris is survived by his wife of 20 years: Nicole, daughters: Hallee, Ambrie, and Sutton and his son: Tate.
