Nicholas Mitchell Obituary: Suspect dead, Officer injured in shoot-out outside of Ross County Sheriff’s Office.
42-year-old Nicholas Mitchell died from injuries sustained in a shooting that stemmed from an exchange of gunfire with a Deputy outside the Ross County Sheriff’s Office Thursday evening.
According to the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Mitchell was killed and a deputy, Sgt. Eric Kocheran was seriously injured after an exchange of gunfire.
According to authorities, Sgt. Kocheran was shot during an exchange of gunfire with the suspect outside the sheriff’s office at approximately 5 p.m.
Sgt. Kocheran was transported to Grant Medical Center in Columbus in serious condition.
Mitchell was taken to a hospital in the Chillicothe area where he died from his injuries.
A body-cam video from the Ross County Sheriff’s Office that shows the shootout between Sgt. Eric Kocheran and Nicholas Mitchell has now been released.
