Nuwan Gunawardena, a legendary vocalist from Sri Lanka, passed away this evening, December 8, 2022. According to family sources, he was being treated at a hospital in Colombo when he passed away.
Gunawardena, a prominent playback singer in Sinhala films in Sri Lanka, is well known for his hits like “Pawee Giyawe,” “La Sanda Eliye,” and “Sanda Men Bala.”
Mourning his death, Chethiya Prabhashana wrote; “Alumni of our village Mahanama in Battaramulla had organized a mat. I saw Nuwan Gunawardena for the first time that day. A man who has ears while Nuwan is singing is difficult to sit in a chair and listen. So, When Nuwan Kiri says on the beach, “Hey I want to dance” I won’t shout again. Dear Nuwan Gunawardena, have a good journey!”
