This world will never be the same. Janelle Eileen Wilks (owner of Hurts Donut Cedar Falls) went to be with Jesus yesterday. We will all miss her so much as will so many people whose lives she has touched over her 45 years on this earth.
In honor of her, a couple of community members have offered to pay for the first $500 worth of donuts ordered starting at 2:39pm today—exactly 24 hours after Janelle went to heaven. ♥️

When it was time to bring Jaxon home from rehab in 2020, we were overwhelmed with our own grief & the unknown for how we would make that happen. This gal quietly stepped in to offer to be a part of the solution when we saw so many problems. That’s just who she is, she helps connect the dots for people. She has done it for not only us, but so many others in this town.
I’ll never forget a phone call I took on our front lawn from her as she asked me gently what we hoped we could provide for Jax, not just what would barely get us by. She is a big reason we dreamed bigger for him to have his own space enough that his friends could have room to be here often. For us to have space for our other kids, too. Our original plans were SO small – but she dreams and does big! She went to work behind the scenes with so many other greats to be sure we would not only survive, but thrive. She loved fiercely.
Our community will feel the loss of this woman who had a contagious smile & a heart to match it. A shared grief is all around. Please keep the Wilks family in your prayers. And if you get the chance, make someone’s life better by simply showing up with who you are and all you’ve got. That was Janelle 🤍

My sweet friend. Janelle Wilks…. My heart hurts. I met Janelle when she first moved here and we clicked instantly. We went to dinner at Texas Roadhouse the first night after her first day at Mauer Eye Center and talked for hours. I felt like I knew her forever.
She was a great friend who made me understand that loving again after Lynn died was ok. She introduced me to Facebook, Isabelle Blooms, her delicious pasta salad (that her family made for my wedding and I still make all the time).
She was my matron of honor and took it on with full force. The day of the wedding she was sicker then a dog but powered thru. I was honored when she accepted to be godmother to Piper. I experienced my first Hawkeye game with her and she threw me the best baby showers!
No matter how long we went in between talking she always made me feel like it wasn’t long at all when we saw each other. You will be greatly missed my dear friend. 💕💞

Words fall short of expressing our grief for your loss, as we mourn with family and friends for this great loss. We are truly sorry to hear of the loss of this promising being. Please accept our condolences and may our prayers help comfort you. Please receive our heartfelt condolences.
