Matthew James Scavarelli has been arrested by the authorities and charged with second degree murder following the death of a Thunder Bay, Cody Young.
In response to reports of a seriously injured individual, Thunder Bay Police Service officers from the Primary Response Branch were dispatched to the 400-block area of McKenzie Street on Saturday, January 28, just after 4 p.m.
The man was discovered by the responding officers and was seen to have wounds consistent with a recent assault.
Paramedics from Superior North EMS transported the patient to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre for additional treatment, but the facility ultimately pronounced him dead.
The responding officers spotted and identified a male suspect. He was brought into jail without more incident and taken to the TBPS headquarters at 1200 Balmoral Street.
Personnel from the Major Crimes and Forensic Identification Units are currently involved in the ongoing homicide investigation.
Cody YOUNG, a 33-year-old resident of Thunder Bay, has been identified as the victim.
An autopsy will soon be performed, and police are still on duty at the scene.
Matthew James SCAVARELLI, 24, of Thunder Bay, is charged with second-degree murder.
Today, January 29, he is expected to appear in Thunder Bay bond court.
