Sean Leonard Death – Obituary: According to officials, a guy opened fire on the officers as they were responding to a domestic dispute in McKeesport.
Sources have told us that two police officers were shot in McKeesport while responding to a domestic disturbance. Sadly, one of those policemen, Sean Leonard, died as a result of his injuries.
What condition the suspect is in is unknown.
Chuck Thomas, a second McKeesport police officer, suffered leg and face wounds. At the hospital, he is in critical condition.
The 1300 block of Grandview Avenue is where this incident took place.
According to the police, they were told about a person who was going through a mental health crisis and that they might be armed.
The defendant, who was already known to the authorities, was found by two McKeesport Police Department officers along Grandview Avenue after leaving the residence. The suspect then began firing at the policemen, killing one of them and critically wounded another before fleeing.
At the intersection of Versailles and Patterson, where they both fired their weapons at each other before being shot, the suspect, according to police, caught up with a third officer nearby.
The suspect and the hurt officer are both in stable condition.
The Mayor’s Office of the City of McKeesport released the following statement:
The City of McKeesport is mourning the loss of a police officer who was killed in the course of duty. One of our officers was shot and killed while responding to a domestic incident complaint, and another was badly hurt.
Please respect the privacy of these officers’ families and the McKeesport Police Department at this awful and traumatic period.
The McKeesport Area School District’s Facebook page reports that all of the district’s schools and buildings are currently under lockdown due to local police activity.
