On Monday, people in the community held a vigil for the two cheerleaders from Louisiana who died when a police car chasing a suspect crashed into their car. The officer driving the police car is now facing charges.
Maggie Dunn, 17, and Caroline Gill, 15, were both students and cheerleaders at Brusly High School. A lot of people went to the football field to honor them.
On New Year’s Eve, two teens died when an officer crashed into their car while chasing a home-invasion suspect at high speed.
Maggie’s brother Liam Dunn was in the car when it crashed, and he is in very bad shape.
Authorities said that Addis Police officer David Cauthron, who was 42 years old, ran a red light and hit the car carrying the teens while he was trying to catch Tyquel Zanders, who was 24 years old.
The outlet says that Zanders was caught after his car broke down. He was charged with home invasion, theft of a vehicle, and aggravated flight.
He is also being charged with manslaughter.
Cauthron, who is 42 years old, was arrested on Sunday. He is being charged with two counts of negligent homicide and one count of negligent injury.
It’s not clear whether the suspects have pleaded guilty or hired lawyers.
