Bernard Ingham Obituary – Cause of Death: Margaret Thatcher’s former press secretary Sir Bernard Ingham dies at 90.
Sir Bernard Ingham, who worked for Margaret Thatcher for a long time as her press secretary, died at the age of 90 after a short illness, his family said.
Before becoming a Government press officer, he worked as a journalist for The Guardian on Fleet Street. For all but the first few months of Mrs. Thatcher’s time as prime minister, he was her press secretary.
After he left Downing Street, he wrote his memoirs, called Kill the Messenger, and worked as a political pundit, an after-dinner speaker, a cruise lecturer, and a newspaper columnist.
His family said, “He was a journalist to the bone.” He started out at 16 on his local paper in West Yorkshire, The Hebden Bridge Times, and he was still writing weekly columns for Express Online and The Yorkshire Post up until a few days before he died.
