A kid lost his life on Monday night while engaging in “horseplay,” as reported by Troy Police, in the parking lot of Treasure Island.
Gavin Palkovic, 17, was the victim, according to Troy Police Chief Shawn McKinney.
According to early evidence, Palkovic and another person were riding bicycles while clinging to a driving pickup truck, according to McKinney. The two riders released each other as the truck rounded a corner. One managed to get away from the rolling vehicle, but Palkovic was thrown beneath it and driven over. A 16-year-old was the truck’s driver.
When the event was reported on Monday, March 6, at 7:30 p.m., Troy police, fire, and medical personnel were sent to Treasure Island.
To lift the pickup vehicle and release Palkovic, the Troy firefighters utilized jacks and blocks.
The CareFlight chopper was scheduled to meet the medic at Upper Valley Medical Center, but it was postponed.
The child was taken to Upper Valley Medical Center, where doctors declared him dead.
Palkovic attended the Upper Valley Vocational Center and Troy High School.
“We are incredibly saddened to learn about the passing of one of our students,” Chris Piper, superintendent of Troy City Schools, said in a statement release. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the student’s family and friends during this incredibly difficult time.”
