The families of two best friends who tragically died in a crash in Morpeth have come together to pay respect to their precious boys.
On Sunday around 12.40 a.m., police were notified of an accident on the A196 close to Coopies Way.
Despite the best efforts of the emergency services and bystanders, Riley Hedley, 17, and Mikey Easton, 16, tragically died at the site.
Specialist officers are presently providing help to both families as they work to cope with their losses.
The families of the best friends released a combined statement in their joint memory, saying: “We are heartbroken beyond words. The worlds of both of our families have been completely upended. Mikey and Riley were always together. Two young men who were so close and who grew up together may have been brothers. They were a lively couple who made any space more enjoyable.
We have never been more crushed by news. Our lives will be forever altered, and we will miss them with all of our hearts every day for the rest of our lives.
They said, “We have all found great solace in the goodwill of Riley and Mikey’s friends; they were two boys who left a loving and enduring impression on everyone they met and were adored by everybody.
“While we thank everyone for their support and kindness, we now ask that our privacy be respected while we continue to try and come to terms with the loss of our two wonderful boys,” the statement continued. “We also want to thank neighbors and local businesses for their kindness – the whole community has rallied around us and we’re so full of gratitude.
Investigations to ascertain the facts leading up to the crash are still ongoing.
Police are still pleading with any witnesses to come forward, particularly anyone who may have dashcam evidence.
