Matt Halford of Cornwall Death – Obituary: In Loving Memory of Matthew Halford: According to an online obituary on Monday, March 20, 2023, Matt Halford has passed away unexpectedly. However, cause of death was not disclosed.
Emergency services were called to the famous beach side pub on Saturday morning to reports of concern for the welfare of a man in his 30s.
A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: “Emergency services were called at around 9.30am to Perranporth Beach following reports of concern for the welfare of a man. The man, in his 30s, was confirmed deceased at the scene.
“His next of kin have been informed. The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
Initially the pub said in a post on Facebook it would be closing for the weekend but did not explain why.
However a later post said it would open for Mother’s Day as that’s what the family of the deceased man wanted.
In a post on Facebook the pub said: “Matt’s mum, brothers and Halford family have asked that the Watering Hole stay open for all the mums who have children and lost children. They stand together in solidarity.”
While the deceased man has not been officially identified, last year Matt Halford celebrated 21 years as the head chef at the Watering Hole working at the pub alongside his brother Jason.
The pub was set up by Matt and Jason’s father Mick Halford 28 years ago, starting out as a 6m by 3m shack on the beach.
