On Friday, the pilot tragically lost his life in a plane crash in Lubbock County. The Texas Department of Public Safety has identified Christie, a Lavon resident of 26 years, as the pilot who perished in the incident. The crash occurred near the intersection of County Road 7300 and 2500 at approximately 11:40 a.m.
The aircraft involved was a twin-engine Beechcraft Baron 58 that departed from Lubbock Executive Airpark two minutes prior to the crash. Unfortunately, the plane crashed and caught fire less than a mile northwest of the runway. Christie was unable to exit the plane and died at the scene.
The cause of the crash is currently under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board.
